Pregnancy & Postpartum Support
It is estimated that 15-20% of women experience symptoms of depression and anxiety during the postpartum period. Sometimes symptoms begin during pregnancy. I provide individual therapy for women to talk about difficult thoughts that are sometimes associated with pregnancy and postpartum. Sometimes there is a need to talk about emotions like ambivalence, sadness and fear. Women also come in to discuss changing identity, missing your "old life" and relationship discord with your partner or extended family. No topic is off limits.
Pregnancy Loss
Losing a pregnancy at any stage is devastating. Our society is not accustomed to supporting intended parents during this time. Often this can lead to stigma and isolation, feeling as though no one wants to listen and no one understands. In a couple relationship individuals grieve differently, sometimes leading to misunderstanding. Let's talk about your pregnancy, what is was like to say goodbye and how you are living with your grief. I am here to listen. You set the pace.
Support for Mature Women
There is a lot of emphasis on medical interventions for mature women experiencing menopause. In addition to biological changes, many women experience emotional and social changes that can sometimes lead to symptoms of depression and anxiety. Life transitions, changing identity, career moves and your changing role as a parent and partner are a few of the issues mature women face.
Families Trying to Conceive
When an individual or couple is trying to conceive the pressure can be overwhelming. This may include pressure from yourself, your partner, family and friends. Even well intentioned inquiries can feel unwelcome. Sometimes the medical interventions become such a focus that individuals and couples forget to take care of themselves and each other. We can discuss how to manage mood symptoms while trying to conceive and you can get some much needed support.
